WHAT'S HAPPENING

FOR THE AWSOM PROJECT?
DISABILITY CHILD SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM

Our 2023/2024 Child Disability Sponsorship Program is currently underway with 150 children participating in the program. Although we have many generous sponsors we still have children who have not yet received a sponsor. Our charity is currently supporting these children so they can participate but our funds a re quickly being depleted so we urgently need more sponsors.

The sponsorships enable children to receive weekly water safety and swimming lessons throughout the year, including transportation to and from the pool.

2024 VOLUNTEER TRIP

Our Australian volunteers returned to My Tho City in January 2024. We had a blast back in the pool running our Drowning Prevention Clinics and also visited heaps of local and remote schools with our Community Education sessions.

Introducing our amazing team of teachers and lifeguards who made up the 2024 team:

Nikki McNamara, Bev Christmass, Nola Osborne, Rebecca Ross, Ryan Lee, Casey Willmore, Abbey Sheppard, Amy Gilmore, Charlotte O'Beirne, Ellie Busher, Hayley Carter, Mia Croxford, Phoebe Lee, Sarah Brook, Sophie Willmore and Sydney Midgley.

These volunteers funded their own expenses for travel and accommodation and kindly shared their time and expertise providing vital skills and information to these communities.

2023 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

We were so excited to welcome Ms Vo Thi Tuyet and Ms Tran Thao to Perth. These lovely ladies from My Tho City were recipients of the 2023 AWSOM Project Scholarship Program. Ms Tuyet and Ms Thao participated in a number of professional development activities including training with Beatty Park Leisure Centre teachers, joining a Coastal Safety Field Trip in Margaret River, and attending the World Conference on Drowning Prevention. It was an honour to host our scholarship recipients and show them around our city.
